Information Center on the division of Germany 1945-1990, since January 2008 in the Austr. 99 (SBK former building) to visit.

It is very important for the young generations to find answers for the following questions:


  • How did the separation come about?
  • Why was the borders system erected?
  • How was the „State Borders West“ constructed to a nearly insurmountable barrier?
  • What were the details of the different borders fortifications of the GDR?
  • How was the everyday life in the former prohibited border area in the GDR?
  • What problems and difficulties the people in Neustadt with the border?
  • Where could the people of the GDR travel to?
  • What was the effect of the border for business and industry in Neustadt?
  • What happend when the border between Neustadt and Sonneberg was opened?
  • What happened between the opening of the Border and today in the area of Neustadt?

For these questions and many others the Information Center will give answers. So it's a chance for schools to visit this unique Information Center. There are a lot of pictures, text documents and models to see. There are also offered guided tours with briefings and video.
